Matters

From the Roman columns of Jerash to the rose-red carved canyons of Petra, from a Bedouin campfire under Wadi Rum stars to floating weightlessly in the Dead Sea - this 10-day journey through Jordan is one of contrast, connection, and profound generosity. This is not a tick-the-highlights tour. We go deeper: understanding the challenges faced by this nation and the work being done at all levels to cope with them. Our give back project is meaningful and very necessary but working alongside the local community is a reward in itself.

Our project will focus on a nursery school in Jerash. It was closed down as the tin roof was deemed a hazard leaving over 100 children in the nearby 2 villages with no access to early learning. We won't get it all fixed but we'll start a meaningful project with the local community and encourage other groups to get involved in the process

By visiting community-run restaurants in Umm Qais, learning with Umm Hamza's agritourism farm in Ajloun, and spending meaningful time with the Jerash community, your travel directly supports grassroots initiatives that sustain local livelihoods, preserve traditional crafts, and will provide a safe learning space for children. Every night spent in local accommodation, every meal cooked by community hands, every workshop attended keeps the money - and the meaning - exactly where it belongs.

Day 1

Arrival in Amman

Touch down at Queen Alia International Airport and let Jordan begin working its magic from the first moment. Your EVA guide will meet you and transfer you to our hotel in Amman's Midtown area.

After settling in, the evening begins as it means to go on - gathered around a table, sharing a traditional Levantine welcome dinner of mezze, warm bread, and the kind of conversation that sets the tone for an extraordinary week ahead.

Day 1

Day 2

Jerash, aljoun and orjan cooking class

We leave Amman and drive north to the Roman city of Jerash, one of the best preserved provincial Roman cities in the world.

From there we continue to Aljoun Castle a 12th Century Islamic Fortress built to guard the region against Crusader incursions.

The experience: In the village of Orjan we join Um Mahmoud a local family who welcome travellers into their home for cooking classes and authentic cultural experiences. You visit the extensive gardens and exotic fruits that grow there. Together we'll prepare a traditional Jordanian meal and share it as a group.

We continue to Um Qais in the late afternoon where we spend the night at Yarmouk Lodge overlooking the Yarmouk Valley.

Day 2

Um Qais, Local Crafts and amina's thara nursery

In the morning, we will visit the archaeological site of Um Qais, Ancient Gadara, perched above the Sea of Gallilee and the Golan Heights. This is a truly special moment in the tour where past history and daily life gently collide.

The Experience: Try your hand at stone carving with a Master Craftsman, then visit a Hadab workshop making traditional crafts. We follow this with a lunch in a local family's home showcasing the absolute best in Jordanian food and local dishes you won't find anywhere else.

In the afternoon we visit Amina's farm to learn about her Thara Nursery project where she cultivates native Jordanian plant species and her own way of giving back to the environment. We'll also learn about the particular challenges of growing plants in an area without a reliable source of water and how they have adapted.

Volunteering project- nursery renovation- Day 1

Today and tomorrow we will leave Amman each morning for full days of hands on volunteering, renovating a local children's nursery. Work will include fixing and painting the fence, working on the interior and other renovation tasks identified together with local staff. This is real, practical work that leaves a lasting impact on this community, .

Our project at the Nursery School is being treated as a longer term project and when you get there you will see why! We will continue what we started yesterday and work with the community to identify the next wet of priorities for our next EVA group

the dead sea and on to Petra

We leave Amman today and head to the Dead Sea where we'll have a Day Pass at a resort, including lunch, where we can float in the mineral rich waters and relax on the shore.

In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to Petra and check in to the locally owned and operated Nomads Hotel. We'll round off this special day with a rooftop dinner, enjoy the sunset and the sweeping views over Petra's Mountains.

Our hotel is a very short drive over to the Petra archaeological site where we spend the morning. We'll take one of the golf carts to go down to the Treasury and from there walk among the rose red ruins of the Nabatean Capital. Lunch is available at the Basin Restaurant but not included as everyone is free to wander on their own to soak it in.

We'll try to leave enough time to visit the Interpretive Centre before we leave- very worthwhile to learn more about the history and past of Petra.

In the afternoon we head to Wadi Rum for a sunset jeep tour across the desert before settling into our Martian Tents at the Panorama Wadi Rum Desert Camp for the night.

Desert Dawn

There are some optional activities for anyone who wants to have a sunrise balloon ride or other desert journey before breakfast.

Whether you wake early or later, the superb breakfast buffet awaits and we leave Wadi Rum heading for Aqaba.

On arrival, we'll check in and you have the day to rest and relax at the beach and enjoy the crystal waters.

In the evening we'll gather for a seafood dinner at the local fish market.

Day 8

Aqaba free morning and sunset cruise

This is our final day together and you have the morning free to pack, shop or just wander around Aqaba for the last time.

In the evening, we set sail on a private boat sailing on the Red Sea where the coastlines of four countries visible from the deck - Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Israel.

You have the chance to go snorkelling in the Red Sea's coral gardens, renowned for their extraordinary biodiversity and visibility.

As the sun is setting we will have our final dinner on board the boat enjoying freshly prepared grilled fish and local salads.

Good bye- or just another week in egypt?

Can you believe it's over! We've seen and done so much over the past 10 days, living in history in real time.

After breakfast, the choice is yours- you may wish to journey home and we’ll help you arrange your transportation to King Hussein airport where there are 3 daily low cost flights to Amman from Aqaba.

Or! Continue the adventure for another week and join us on the 45 minute flight to Cairo and a week exploring the most significant artefacts of Jordan’s ancient neighbour Egypt. One way or another, we hope you had the trip of a lifetime and that we'll see you again on another EVA trip.
